How to Begin a Journey with God
1
The Bible is clear that we are not as we should be. We have all sinned.
Romans 3v23…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,…
2
Sin separates us from God and keeps us from knowing Him.
Isaiah 59v2 …but your iniquities have made a separation
between you and your God,
and your sins have hidden his face from you
so that he does not hear.
3
God desires for us to know Him both now and eternally.
John 17v3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
4
The horrific death of Jesus Christ has made a way for us to know Him.
1 Peter 2v24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
5
The Word of God commands us to repent of our sins.
Acts 3v19 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out
Acts 17v30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent
6
The Bible also says that we need to believe on the Lord Jesus in order to receive salvation.
Acts 16v31-32 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
7
When we repent and believe we begin the journey of knowing God for ourselves.
Jeremiah 31v34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbour and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
8
God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit takes up residence within us at this point and we become part of God’s family.
Ephesians 1v13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
John 14v17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
9
The Holy Spirit enable us to live God’s way as we yield ourselves to Him.
2 Tim 1v14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. NIV
James 4v7-8 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
10
Eternal life is birthed in us and we begin to enjoy forgiveness and release from condemnation and judgement.
Romans 5v1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 8v1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
11
We have the promise of living forever with God in a new heavens and new earth free of pain, suffering and death.
Rev 21v1-4 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
12
Receive this gift today and begin a life where you will receive God’s love, joy and peace and so many other things.
Galatians 5v22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
13
Jesus never promised life would be easy following Him. In fact He calls us to count the cost.
Luke 14v33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.
14
So you have to call out to God to forgive you of your sins and ask Him to help you in following His ways.
15
Begin to read the Bible and pray and find fellowship in a Bible believing Church.
Acts 2v42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Hebrews 10v24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
